The group provide the connection to Taumata Kaumatua from the iwi and hapü associated with Te Matarau and serve to maintain the principle of tika throughout all Te Matarau endeavours.
The role of Te Taumata o Te Matarau is to ensure that Te Matarau activity remains consistent with kaupapa Mäori principle and practice.
The Te Matarau organisation recognises the fundamental place of Wairuatangä in all its activities and maintains the commitment through receiving strong leadership from Te Taumata o Te Matarau.
